CAMBODIAN "KHMER" TATTOO FROM AMERICA
Khmer Tattoo! So many Cambodian young adults to Adult want to keep
artistic temples on their skin. This is not Khmer script or Ancient writing “Sak Yant” blesses by a Buddha Monk. This is the Ancient Art! I have notice a lot of Cambodian American or “Khmer American” love the modern style with the ancient temple as their tattoo. Cambodian American uses this symbol of tattoo to have their
culture inside until their death, this is history and show people "I am Cambodian and
I’m proud of my culture + my ancient temples". Most Cambodian American grew
up in the urban life in America and the best way to remember their culture is the
temple on the wall + Multimedia. American School did not teach any Cambodian youth their culture
or the temple they see on the media, many young Khmer male uses their time to study part of
the Culture from old people to books. Khmer youth only see White Super-hero
such as Batman or Superman and African American artist or Sport players, but
going into their vein and blood, a culture is hidden a culture that will never
die; however, art, music, film will keep this culture alive in America. Angkor Wat is well known in most Khmer male
body and Bayon which show power of the great king of “Jayavarman VII”.
Cambodian American did not just choose an art from a temple; each tattoo has a
part of power and also the artistic layers. Most Khmer will not have “Hanuman”
but some do to show the power of the great Monkey King; however, their always a story behind each Tattoo that target ancient kings, temples, gods from the Khmer Empire.
Each Cambodian male has to
respect the temple art because this is ancient art that will live forever. Most
Cambodian Female has an Aspara, but they did not understand the power of it and
also the meaning of it. I believe this is disrespectful for a female that is
not a virgin to put a tattoo of an Aspara, but hey we live in the 21th time
period where most people don’t care. But I do ask you! To interview each
Cambodian male their Khmer Tattoo, I bet 99% of them will understand why they
put it in there; the power of symbols from the Cambodian people and the art of
the ancient Khmer people. One reason why Cambodian parents want a male because they keep the traditional image alive compare to a Khmer women. Many Cambodian American male wish that their temple monks know how to do the “Sak Yant”, because if I do know one, I will get one ASAP !
